How to Add Fonts in Alight Motion
To add fonts in Alight Motion, extract the download, select a .ttf file, open a text layer’s font list, choose the import control, and select the file through the device picker. Apply the imported family, test every required character, reopen the project, and export a short sample before building the final animation.
Importing and using a font are different checks. A file can enter the font list but still lack the characters, weight, spacing or license required by the project.
What should you check before importing a font?
Alight Motion Support recommends TrueType files with the .ttf extension. ZIP, RAR and similar archives must be extracted first; the archive itself is not a font the app can use.
| Check | Accept when | Stop when |
|---|---|---|
| File | The extracted item ends in .ttf |
Only a ZIP/RAR, image, APK or renamed file exists |
| Source | The creator or library and download page are recorded | The file came from an unknown button or repack |
| License | Personal, commercial or redistribution terms fit the project | “Free” is the only rights information |
| Family | Family name and required weight are identifiable | The file name gives no reliable family/weight identity |
| Script | The source lists the needed writing system or characters | Only a decorative Latin preview is shown |
| Storage | The file is reachable through the device file picker | It remains inside a compressed archive or inaccessible cloud location |
Changing .otf, .zip or another extension to .ttf does not convert the file. Use a legitimate TrueType release supplied by the font creator or library.
How do you import a custom font into Alight Motion?
Use a duplicate or small test project so a failed typeface does not disrupt the working composition. Control labels can move between app versions and platforms, but the route always begins from a text layer and its font selector.
Open the import route
Create or open a project, add a text layer and select that layer. Open the text or font controls, enter the font-family list and choose the import/add-font control shown by the installed version. In the device picker, select the extracted .ttf file—not its ZIP/RAR archive—and wait for Alight Motion to return to the font list.
Do not grant unrelated permissions or install an APK, browser extension, configuration profile or paid-font access app to obtain a typeface. A font import requires a font file, not another application.
Select the imported family
After the picker closes, open the font list again if needed. Find the typeface by its displayed internal name, which can differ from the downloaded filename, and apply the required weight to the selected text layer.
How do you know the font really works?
A usable result passes four gates. Stopping after the first gate is the main reason a “successful” import later produces substituted or broken text.
- Accepted: Alight Motion accepts the
.ttfwithout an error. - Selected: the intended internal family and weight appear on the text layer.
- Rendered: every character, mark, number and punctuation symbol in the test string looks correct.
- Preserved: the project retains the family after reopening, and the exported sample matches the preview.
This sequence separates a bad file from a missing glyph, text-encoding problem, project substitution or export-only rendering defect.
How do you add Hindi and other local-language fonts?
A font changes each character’s visible form, called a glyph. Switching typefaces cannot translate English or turn Roman typing into Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bangla or Gujarati. Enter valid Unicode text with the appropriate keyboard or paste it from a trusted text editor.
- every character produces a glyph rather than an empty box;
- vowel marks attach to the intended base letter;
- conjuncts form correctly;
- the headline and upper/lower marks remain clear;
- punctuation and numbers fit the selected family;
- line breaks remain stable at the planned text-box width.
Do not split a joined word into separate layers to repair shaping. Indic text depends on character relationships. First retest the same Unicode string with a well-supported font, remove distortion and extreme spacing, and compare the result in a fresh text layer.
The same method applies to other scripts: confirm that the exact family contains the required glyph set, then test a representative sentence. One language label or sample image does not prove complete script coverage.
How should you style text without damaging readability?
Set the typeface, weight, size and line breaks before adding outlines or motion. Use one display family for a short title and a simpler face for longer captions when the visual roles differ.
Check five typography controls at final preview size:
- Weight: thin strokes can soften after video compression.
- Contrast: text must remain distinct from every background frame.
- Spacing: aggressive tracking can separate marks from their visual context.
- Line height: upper and lower marks need vertical space.
- Safe margins: interface overlays can cover text placed near an edge.
Proofread with motion paused, then watch at normal speed. Styling passes only when the words remain correct and readable in the finished timing.
Why is an Alight Motion font not working?
Trace the failure in order: archive → font file → file picker → family selection → glyph rendering → project preservation → export.
| Symptom | Failure stage | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Font file does not appear | Archive/storage | Extract ZIP/RAR and move the .ttf to a local folder visible to the picker |
| Import control is missing | Interface/platform | Select a text layer, reopen the font list and record the current app/platform labels |
| Import shows an error | File | Obtain a fresh .ttf from the recorded legitimate source; do not rename another format |
| Imported name differs | Internal identity | Search the list for the family’s internal name rather than the download filename |
| Text still looks default | Selection/coverage | Reselect the family and test a character whose shape visibly differs |
| Empty boxes appear | Glyph coverage | Use a family that explicitly includes the required script |
| Hindi marks or conjuncts break | Text/shaping | Retype valid Unicode text, remove distortion and test a proven Devanagari family |
| Specific letters break after an effect | Effect interaction | Test plain text first, then restore one effect or transform at a time |
| Font disappears after transfer | Destination dependency | Install the same licensed family and weight on the destination device |
| Preview is correct but export is weak | Export/readability | Export a short final-resolution sample and compare strokes, marks and spacing |
Preserve the working project before clearing app data or reinstalling. Locally stored projects can be deleted with the app, so destructive repair is not the first font troubleshooting step.
What should travel with a font-based project?
Keep a font manifest beside valuable project assets. Record the family’s displayed name, weight, original filename, source URL, license text and the scripts used. Keep the permitted .ttf outside app-private storage.
On another device, install the same licensed file before judging layout. Reopen the project, compare line breaks and bounds, inspect the complete test string, then export a short reference clip. A project file, XML file or share link does not by itself prove that every external font transferred.
For project setup, layer selection and export, follow the beginner Alight Motion workflow. See Alight Motion for the app’s platform options.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add fonts in Alight Motion?
Extract the download, select the .ttf file, open a text layer’s font list, and use the import control. Choose the file through the device picker, apply its displayed family and weight, then test the complete text before reopening and exporting the project.
What font format does Alight Motion support?
Alight Motion Support recommends TrueType files using the .ttf extension. Extract ZIP, RAR or similar archives before selection. Renaming another file type does not convert it; obtain a genuine TTF release from the creator or licensed font library.
Why is my imported font not showing?
The font can appear under its internal family name instead of the downloaded filename. Reselect the text layer, reopen the font list, search for that family, and test a distinctive character. If import failed, extract the archive and retry a legitimate .ttf from local storage.
How do I add Hindi fonts in Alight Motion?
Import a licensed .ttf family that lists Devanagari coverage, then enter valid Unicode Hindi with a suitable keyboard. Test a complete line containing vowel marks and conjuncts. Empty boxes or detached marks indicate missing glyphs, incompatible text or broken shaping.
Do custom fonts transfer with an Alight Motion project?
Do not assume a project package, XML file or share link contains an external custom font. Record the exact family, weight, source and license, keep the permitted .ttf, install it on the destination device, then compare the reopened project and test export.
